Two New Alaska-themed Collections Out Now

I'm Here: Alaska Stories features a dozen stories dramatizing life in the Alaskan interior. Published by Red Hen Press/Boreal Books, the collection displays Crouse's usual sharp eye for detail and the grittier sides of life, but this time the stories often take surprising turns toward the beautiful and even the transcendent.

Trouble Will Save You, a collection of three novellas, also situates the reader in the Alaskan interior. Published by University of Colorado/University of Alaska Press, this collection follows the tradition of other writers who made the long story their obsession: Andre Dubus, Alice Munro, and Rachell Ingalls. Crouse has worked in this form before, most notably in the novella Click from the collection Copy Cats, but these stories are something altogether different, twisting between realism and fabulation in complicated ways.
